On the Bright Side

always look on the bRight side of life by Tomatoskin.

from tomatoskin's flickr stream

It’s been an interesting few months, that’s for sure. I’m looking down the barrel at the end of the school year, which marks a huge transition in my life:  I will be moving out of my current residence, I will have finished my second year of teaching, and I will be seeking a new place to call home.

That’s a lot to have going on. And that’s on top of all the other transitions. But I’ve gotta tell you, I’m handling it well, forgive me for bragging, but it’s true. Granted, I have bad days, and I write about the frustrations here on my blog, but you must know that for the most part, life is still pretty good.

“With all the changes you have going on, how can you be that way?” you ask. Well, determination and will mostly, with a healthy dose of perspective.

If you’ve been a long-time reader of this blog, then you know that this is a minor bump compared to my other life experiences. Yes, these things are life changing, and yes, these things are difficult. But in the overall spectrum of where I’ve been and where I’m going, it’s really not a big deal.

I have a lot going for me. I’m a smart, determined, and buoyant young woman with good credentials and a great attitude. Yes, I don’t know where I’ll be living this summer or this fall. Yes, I don’t know where I’m working this fall, either. But you know what, it’ll work out. It always does. And in the meantime I’m enjoying the life I have one moment at a time.

And besides, as the Monty Python guys sang in The Life of Brian:

Some things in life are bad
They can really make you mad
Other things just make you swear and curse.
When you’re chewing on life’s gristle
Don’t grumble, give a whistle
And this’ll help things turn out for the best…

And…always look on the bright side of life…
Always look on the light side of life…

If life seems jolly rotten
There’s something you’ve forgotten
And that’s to laugh and smile and dance and sing.
When you’re feeling in the dumps
Don’t be silly chumps
Just purse your lips and whistle – that’s the thing.

And…always look on the bright side of life…
Always look on the light side of life…

For life is quite absurd
And death’s the final word
You must always face the curtain with a bow.
Forget about your sin – give the audience a grin
Enjoy it – it’s your last chance anyhow.

So always look on the bright side of death
Just before you draw your terminal breath

Life’s a piece of shit
When you look at it
Life’s a laugh and death’s a joke, it’s true.
You’ll see it’s all a show
Keep ’em laughing as you go
Just remember that the last laugh is on you.

And always look on the bright side of life…
Always look on the right side of life…
(Come on guys, cheer up!)
Always look on the bright side of life…
Always look on the bright side of life…
(Worse things happen at sea, you know.)
Always look on the bright side of life…
(I mean – what have you got to lose?)
(You know, you come from nothing – you’re going back to nothing.
What have you lost? Nothing!)
Always look on the right side of life…

We’re rooting for you, Jen! And somewhat in the same soup pot with what’s happening this summer (e.g. move, new job, relationship change (new baby). I understand something of what you’re going through!
